I’m directing this article to those who are just starting their eBay Selling Venture. Whether you’re selling books, DVDs, CDs, collectibles or clothing, all things (with the exception of eBooks and services) need to be mailed. And it’s the postage, handling fees and mailing that seems to cause a great deal of angst among new sellers. You’ve heard the advice – don’t overcharge for shipping. That is very good advice, indeed, as nothing turns off potential buyers like sellers who gouge you on the shipping costs. It’s also a practice that can rack up bad feedback. However, I’m going to play Devil’s Advocate here and suggest that you don’t go overboard and give so much of a break on shipping that you’re chipping away at your profits. It’s good to remember the “hidden costs” of shipping: bubble wrap to secure your breakables, tape, shipping envelopes, boxes, etc. Then there’s the gas you put in your car to take all those trips to the post office. You might think I’m being cheap, but, if you added up all your eBay expenses for the year (as some did for their recent taxes) you might be shocked to see how all the packing materials and gas for your car added up and took a little chunk out of your eBay profits. And, believe me, they do add up. Some people are even more surprised to find they underestimated the weight of their packages, causing their profits to shrink even further. How can you be fair to both you and your buyers? 1. Buy a scale. It may sound simple, but purchasing a scale can save you a bundle in shipping. If you’re just eyeballing the weight of the package, you can often times guess too low, and be in for quite a shock when you go to the post office and see the package is going to cost twice what you thought to ship. 2. Know the dimensions of your packaging before listing the item. Some packages cost more to ship because of their dimensions. Knowing the weight alone isn’t enough. 3. Offer the buyer a variety of shipping methods. Some prefer speedy delivery with Express mailing, while some prefer to save money with parcel post even though the wait is longer. It’s always a good idea when using parcel post or other slower ground shipping to alert the buyer by email that it can take anywhere from 8 to 10 days. 4. Save yourself money whenever possible by using boxes that have been used. Most stores are more than happy to let you rummage through their old boxes and take some home with you. But, do remember to choose boxes that are presentable, secure and strong enough for your items. And, if you have breakables, don’t skimp on the bubble wrap. 5. Give yourself a small handling fee that will cover your expenses. Some sellers add on an additional $1 or $2 to the shipping fees for their handling fees (depending on the cost of the item and how much packaging you have to use). I really advocate doing this because your expenses will add up if you do a lot of selling on eBay. Be sure to be upfront with your buyers that you have a small handling fee so they can’t complain about it later. Being fair to both yourself and your buyer will keep you both happy, and keep more of your profit in your pocket.

On a study published in Obstetrics and Gynecology, those women who take their birth control pill regularly without a miss, but has a BMI or Body Mass Index of higher than 27.3. have a higher risk of becoming pregnant. However, researchers have yet to come up with a final, conclusive evidence about the connections between pregnancy, body weight, and birth control pills. Definitely, there is no one single pill that is supposed to be the answer to all birth control questions and needs of women, or couples, for that matter. Birth control pills have been reformulated several times since it was approved during the 1960's. There have been more than 40 types of birth control pills available throughout the United States, and in most parts of the globe. Researchers began to realize the fact that most women did not need to take the maximum dosage for such pills, in order to prevent pregnancy. In line with this, birth control pills today are now sold with a much lower amount or level of hormones than birth control pills sold twenty to thirty years ago. There are two kinds of pills: the combination (mixed estrogen and progestin) and progestin-only (often dubbed as the mini pill). Women who breastfeed should not take the combination pill since estrogen can reduce milk production. Since the progestin-only pill contains no estrogen, this is a good choice for breastfeeding mothers, especially since one can still get pregnant while breastfeeding despite the myth that still persists that breastfeeding women cannot conceive. Usually, women can safely miss one pill without having to use any back-up birth control method, but missing two can increase the risk of getting pregnant. Playing safe would be the key here, and using a back-up method for the rest of the pack is recommended. It is also a fact that the pill can cause very slight weight gain, but this won't make a woman fat. A few decades ago, when the hormone levels of women were generally higher, taking the pill resulted in an increase of body weight. Different women have different side effects. It is best to shop around for the pill that works for oneself, but try and wait for at least three months before switching, since many side effects dissipate after a few months.

My dad and mom fought all the time, so coming home to a quiet house was a wonderful break, and I loved it. See what I'm getting at here? You have the right to take any piece of your personal history and reinterpret it to your advantage rather than to your detriment. You can find ways to turn your past to your own good. Studies have shown that many children who grow up insecure tend to be unusually self-reliant as adults. You don't HAVE to be filled with resentment, anger or helplessness. You COULD choose to feel something more pleasant, at least part of the time. And if you did choose to feel better about yourself, what do you think the result might be? Did you know this is what many of the most successful people do? If they have a terrible experience, they simply turn it this way and that till they find a new aspect to emphasize. One that makes them feel better about themselves. Don't believe me? Go read any great person's biography. It's almost a given that winners only become winners after overcoming huge difficulties. And they overcome because they keep trying, keep learning how to control their own thinking until they get good at it. So if you've got anything -- ANYTHING AT ALL -- in your past that drags you down, angers you or depresses you, you have the right to look at it more closely. “I want to increase my golf swing clubhead speed!” I hear this one all the time from the members of my golf-trainer site and golfers sending me emails. I want to be a ‘straight’ shooter (pardon the pun) right now. Increasing your golf swing clubhead speed is not everything! You heard that correctly. You can swing at 140 mph and it won’t mean anything unless your golf swing sequence and moment of impact is solid. There are lots of 300 yards in the woods! I have to chuckle when I see the Speed Stik commercials with Vijay. Swinging that thing harder and harder isn’t going to make your ball go straight…and if I’m correct, the goal is to get it in the fairway, right? The point I’m trying to get at is a more powerful, controlled, sequenced swing that does produce a higher clubhead speed, yet in control swing. One that has a consistent swing path and solidness of hit on the clubface. So how do you achieve this? The only way is to improve your golf-specific strength and flexibility! If you’ve read any of my 300 plus articles, you’ll know I come back to this time-and-time again. It’s your BODY that limits your golfing ability. Now picture this! You do some simple, ‘in-home” golf exercises and go to the course. You step up to the tee and rip one farther than you have in years and it stays in play. Doesn’t that sound more like it? There is a balance between a higher clubhead swing speed, control and sequence of motion that gets you back to impact hitting the ball in the center of your clubface. Swinging hard just to swing hard won’t accomplish your goals of longer/straighter drives. I receive emails from members, customers of my golf fitness dvds and manual who tell me who much more stable their swing has become doing my simple golf exercises, and how they are hitting it 20-30 yards further…consistently. So don’t get me wrong! I’m all about improving your golf swing clubhead speed…but with a stable swing…not one that is out of control and balance. I’m very proud when I receive these emails and know I’ve made yet another golfer a believer in golf training. So next time you see Vijay’s commercial for the Speed Stik, don’t run out and buy it with the intension your going to see that number go up-and-up. Buy it with the intension that your swing will be stronger, stabler and in better sequence. Then and only then will increasing your golf swing clubhead speed be a factor.

Autism is there a link with immunizations

Autism is a neurological, developmental disorder, which can inhibit the normal developmental growth of individuals. Symptoms of autism include impairments in social skills, as well as communication skills, repetitive behaviors, and poor speech patterns. Because the severity of the symptoms will vary, some individuals diagnosed with autism may be able to live on their own, while others become totally reliant on someone to care for them. While there have been theories that autism may be caused by immunizations, there has been no scientific data found to link the two together. Research has been conducted to find a connection between autism and immunizations and research will be continued to discover what causes this damaging disorder. However, none of the data collected, from the research conducted so far, has been able to prove this theory. The National Childhood Encephalopathy Study was investigated in 1997. The study was to find a connection between neurological function and the measles vaccine. Researchers did not find any connection between the two and if anything, only confirmed that the measles vaccine did not contribute to any neurological disorders or dysfunction. Several other studies done over the course of the next nine years were also conducted to find the link between immunizations and autism. Again, none of these have shown as strong link between the two. One of these studies, conducted in 1998 by Wakefield and colleagues, suggested that the MMR vaccine caused intestinal abnormalities and developmental regression in children within a few weeks of receiving the MMR. However, this study had its problems, including the fact that only 12 children were used in the study, they did not use any healthy children for control subjects, and at least 4 out of the 12 children involved had behavioral problems before they experienced any symptoms of bowel abnormalities. Due to the fact that so much was wrong with the research, many of the researches retracted their opinions of the results and none of the results gained can be used as supporting evidence. What does all of this mean? Generally, for any theory to be proved, scientific data must point one toward the answer. None of the research conducted in trying to find a link has been proven. Many studies are going on that are following the theory that autism is linked to a genetic abnormality. Recently, a study was conducted on over 30,000 Japanese children, born in Yokohama between 1988 and 1996, that has really taken hold as proof that there is no connection between the MMR and autism. Basically, what this study shows is that even after the MMR was replaced with single vaccines, the number of children diagnosed with autism has continued to rise. What this means is that parents should no longer be worried they are putting their children in danger when they get the MMR. The fact is that throughout the years of research, not one study can prove that there is a link between the triple immunization, MMR, and autism. The research will continue, however, for the cause of autism in the hope that we will not just find a cause, but a cure, as well.

In the ever growing world of poker, being on tilt can be a poker players’ biggest fear. Poker players are said to be on tilt when they are just not at their best game. They often play many hands, the majority of them being losses, place bets on bad hands, place off the wall high bets on mediocre hands, or out of desperation try wild, obvious bluffs. Players on tilt are often reckless, and make bad decisions and errors uncommon to them. Once a player goes on tilt, it is very hard to break the cycle. More often than not, by the time a player realizes they are on tilt, it is too late to avoid it. Many players have lost their entire stack before they would admit they were on tilt and walk away. It is important to look for warning signs of possibly going on tilt, so that you can stop before it is too late. Playing when you are tired is one of the most likely causes of tilt. When you are tired, you aren’t at your best no matter what you are doing. Your ability to make good decisions is impacted, and since that is a crucial skill in poker playing, you really should not play when you are overly tired. When you start to get sleepy, and feel your fatigue level rising, it is important to stop playing and rest. You can always come back later, and will probably play better because you will be well rested and wide awake, hence, making better decisions. Tie a tight overhand knot at one end of the new lacing, and using a leather awl or other pointy tool, push the lacing through the first hole of the stitching pattern. Pull the lacing through all the way to the knot. 5. Continue threading the lacing through the holes, replicating the glove's original lacing pattern. Make sure the lacing is pulled as tight as possible without deforming the glove. In time, the new lacing will stretch a bit. 6. Make another overhand knot at the end of the section. Adjust the knot snugly against the glove, and cut off any excess lacing close to knot. 7. Repeat these steps for the other sections needing repair. Detroit schools has a difficult start to the 2006 2007 school year

Detroit Schools’ Teachers Delay School Starts with Strike There has been a slow and turbulent start to the Detroit Schools ’ new school year. In a battle over contracts, some 7,000 teachers and 2,000 staff members refused to start school in September. These contract disagreements lead finally to a court battle. The contract disagreement began on August 28 after the Teachers Union rejected a two year contract that included salary cuts of 5% and increased health insurance co-payments. Detroit Schools wants an $88 million concession from the Detroit Schools’ Teachers’ Union to help with the $105 million deficit to its $1.36 billion budget. On September 16, Detroit Circuit Court Judge Susan Borman ordered that the 7,000 striking Detroit Schools’ teachers return to work. After this order, Detroit Teachers’ Union president Janna Garrison read the order aloud to 3,000 Detroit Federation of Teachers members but did not comment or give any instructions as to whether the order should be obeyed. The vast majority of the teachers did not return to work. Detroit Schools’ spokesman Lekan Oguntoyinbo stated that under state law teachers who defied the order could face penalties which include fines and other actions. Oguntoyinbo said that Detroit Schools would go back to the courts and request that the order be enforce. As of the 18th of September, teachers had not returned and Detroit Schools has not decided what action it would take. On the official first day of school, the 130,000 students in the Detroit Schools were greeted by their teachers not in the classroom but protesting outside.
