There may be new hope for many cancer patients, their caregivers and loved ones. That's because America's research-based pharmaceutical companies are today developing nearly 400 new medicines to treat cancer, according to a survey of ongoing research conducted by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). Many of the medicines now in development represent potential breakthrough cancer treatments, while others involve possible new uses for existing medicines. The medicines in development are all either in clinical trials or under review by the Food and Drug Administration. They include: • 62 for lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer death in the United States; • 49 for breast cancer, which is expected to strike more than 200,000 American women this year; • 50 for prostate cancer, which is expected to kill more than 30,000 American men this year; and • 35 for colorectal cancer, the third most common cancer in both men and women in the U. S. Other potential medicines target kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, brain cancer, skin cancer, ovarian cancer and others. In addition, companies are working on new treatments to improve the quality of life for people undergoing cancer treatment. "Anyone fighting cancer or anyone who has beaten it knows the importance of these medicines and this research," said Billy Tauzin, PhRMA president and CEO who is also a cancer survivor. "Sometimes, the hope that one of these new medicines will work for you is what keeps you fighting the disease." Recent cancer research efforts have resulted in several new treatments. For example, a medicine to treat metastatic colorectal cancer is the first treatment approved that prevents the formation of new blood vessels that provide tumors with oxygen and nutrients. There's also a medicine for the treatment of nonsmall-cell lung cancer that inhibits the formation and growth of tumor cells. Research into possible new cancer cures and treatments is today being conducted by as many as 178 biopharmaceutical companies as well as by the National Cancer Institute. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America represents the country's leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies.

Fulfilling our basic need of self protection
Self preservation of ourselves and our loved ones is one of man's basic needs. It is inherent in every single one of us. Mankind craves security. I don't know why it is but every time my wife and I go to see her cousin in San Diego I get to thinking about self-defense. You see, my wife's cousin just turned 60 but he is still active in karate and has been able to stay in condition. I thinks its great that he can do this, and I'm sure his knowledge of the martial arts would be of great help to him if he or his family were ever attacked and had to defend themselves. I sit and ponder the what the result would be for me or my family who have had no formal martial art backgrounds and possibly handicapped due to our physical disabilities. How do we prevent ourselves from becoming victims? What would you do in my place? I have investigated crime reports and their recommendations. Pretty much across the board they recommend using some common sense and avoidance of situations and scenarios that give the edge to the criminal. For example: Street Safety. Using common sense. 1. Stay in well lighted, busy areas. Avoid walking alone and avoid known trouble spots. 2. When you carry a purse, hold it close to your body rather than by the handles. Do not wrap purse straps around your wrist, because you can get hurt in a struggle. 3. Carry only what you need in a purse or wallet, not everything you have. 4. Avoid using shortcuts through dark alleys, fields, or vacant lots. 5. If you think you're being followed, cross the street and change directions a few times. Go quickly to a well-lighted place with lots of people. Do not go home. You don't want an attacker to know where you live. There may come times that we have taken all the recommended precautions and still find ourselves in a position to be victimized by criminals. Is there anything else we can do? Today we have the benefit of technology such as self-defense devices and surveillance equipment in the forms of personal alarms, pepper spray, nanny cams, etc. When we decide to use this technology we must use it wisely and be familiarized with its operation. Having knowledge about how these devices are properly used is very important. Society's institutions no longer have the capability to protect you and your family as they once had. For the last twenty years or so the nation's crime rate has greatly increased. Obviously our nation and society have become a dangerous place in which to live and raise our children. The laws and institutions designed to protect us are failing to do so. There is little left for us to do but arm ourselves with effective defense devices and/or learn the ancient ways of self protection long forgotten by our ancestors.
Who is a successful scientist
Being little children we have dreams about whom are we going to be in their future. Though your dream was to fly into outer space, you chose to keep your feet on the ground and let your mind wonder and research. Being attentive, hard-working, intelligent and efficient you have every right to call yourself a scholar, but first of all you are to prove it to the others. A scholar is a scientist researching the field of his interest and contributing to it. A scholar is doing a vital job: getting to the essence of things and makes an explanation, an outline, readable and understandable for the colleagues and interested individuals. Excellently written dissertation thesis is not enough to call oneself a bright scholar, for your research may be covered with dust and buried under a pile of similar works. You have to be genuinely interested in what you are doing and get some of your writing into your head for further research. If you want your masters thesis to be read and forgotten you may formulate your thesis statement in a “keep it simple” kind of way. You won’t have to worry about your thesis drawing attention. But if you are concerned to show a completely new approach, or state a new point of view or you got luck and made an important discovery, your work can be published by mass media and bring you success. Top priority for every scholar is to help humans live in comfort, keep them informed and provide them with everything necessary for fair development and success. You are to create authority to communicate with other scholars on friendly terms and assist each other in doing research. A scholar is never tired to investigate and try, experiment and risk. It can take years to come to a conclusion or a discovery, which, by the way, may turn out to be false eventually. A true scholar never gives up trying to find out the truth. Motivators are fame, recognition and a fortune if your discovery brings stable income. That is practically all, what ambitious people need in their lives. There is nothing more awarding than respect in your family, acclaim among colleagues, financial freedom and a bookshelf full of your editions that will make you famous forever.
Debt management plans should include educational loans
There have been a lot of changes in the way student loan interest can be handled for tax purposes. For example, the Internal Revenue Service and the U. S. Government have now included student loan interest as a tax deductible item on personal tax returns. In addition, the previous cap on maximum loan interest rates was repealed and new rates when into effect. So, what does all of this mean? Well when the new rates were announced lenders immediately began advertising campaigns to have students consolidate existing loans in order to lock in the older lower interest rates. The belief was that the newer rates would impact tax returns as the students (or their parents) began to repay educational loans. In order to understand how a change in interest rates can have a huge effect on student loans and student taxes, one needs to have a basic understanding of debt management. For example, interest rates on the unsubsidized or privately issued loans will begin accruing from the date the loan is issued and continues to compound upon itself. Thus, deferred payment loans that also defer interest payments can generate an extremely large amount of additional debt for any student. This impact is lessoned on the federally subsidized loans as subsidized loans to not generate interest in this way. In an attempt to promote the advancement of higher education, the government has allowed interest paid on student loans to be noted as a deduction on individual tax returns. Meanwhile, the deferred payment options allow a student to attend the university and defer payment of the student loans until completion of the degree. The loans come in both subsidized and unsubsidized forms. Subsidized as reserved for those students able to show a financial need and the government pays the interest accrued until the student completes their degree or leaves school. Unsubsidized student loans are not based upon need and the student is responsible for paying interest as it accrues on the loan. There are lenders who will offer deferred payment loans simply because of their income generating power for the underwriting financial institution. And in fact, there are lenders who have made a complete business out of providing deferred payment student loans which are targeted toward students who either do not realize or perhaps do not understand the concept of the interest charge incurred on interest accrued. Student loans, and more specifically deferred payment student loans, that are offered within the boundaries of the federally subsidized or unsubsidized guidelines, are extremely helpful to students and parents who are trying to scrape together enough money to meet college funding needs. However, both parents and students need to be better educated in the terms of the debts they are incurring. Short of taking part in credit counseling to gain that understanding, however, both should take the time to read carefully the loan papers and the terms and conditions attached to them. They should also try, if possible, to pay the unsubsidized interest payments as it accrues. The money they saved would be a great start to a retirement fund upon graduation.
Should you change your décor when you remodel your kitchen
Have you recently decided to replace your kitchen cabinets, retile your kitchen floor, or even change the light fixtures inside your kitchen? If so, who will be remodeling your kitchen? Each year, a large number of homeowners put a fairly large amount of money into kitchen remodeling projects. If you would like to do the same, you may want to add new home dйcor to your list of kitchen remodeling projects. You will find that are there are number of benefits to doing so. If you are planning on remodeling the majority of your kitchen, changing it so that everything is different, why would you not want to? Although you may be able to change around your kitchen by changing your flooring, replacing a few cabinets, and even changing your kitchen countertops, your kitchen may not seem any different if you still have the same kitchen theme. The potential of affiliate marketing as a home based business
With more than 15 million Americans now running Home Based Businesses, what are the benefits, if any, to choosing an Affiliate Marketing Program as a part-time Internet Business! Affiliate Marketing Programs are a great way for anybody to start a home-based Internet business. They offer a wide range of products and services that can, once you have mastered the skills of “driving traffic” to your website, make you good money. Due to its almost unlimited potential, it is now one of the most sought after ways to make extra income quickly. The most common reason that so many people get started in Affiliate Marketing is because by selling other peoples products you save yourself a lot of the headaches that normally go with starting a business. The number one benefit for most people is there's no need for you to invent, produce or stock anything. No need for staff or customer service. All these burdens are taken off your hands by the product or service provider. All you do is promote their products and services on your website. Your only real concern is how to increase your income. Number two on my list of benefits for Affiliate Marketing is the great variety of products and services at your disposal. To help you with your Affiliate Marketing, there are lots of training materials that will help you enhance your Affiliate Marketing capabilities. Due to the large number of products and services that are out there in the market place, it is advisable to choose products and services that interest you. This will help you to effectively advertise and promote these products or services. Do not select products that you do not know or are not familiar with. The main reason I say this is because your interest and passion for a product or services will prompt you to be creative. The most popular benefit of Affiliate Marketing is the small matter of being able to earn money while you do other things like go shopping or while you are sleeping. We all like the idea of making money from “doing nothing”. Is it really that easy? Well the answer to that question is Yes and NO. For you to earn a lot of money, you MUST drive traffic from your website to the providers and this is easier said than done. The most common reason for failure is putting up a website with nothing but Affiliate Links. Let’s think about this. Why would anyone come to your website? How would they find your website? The most popular sites on the Internet are those with content, things people can read. What do we really use the Internet for “Research”. On the Internet today, CONTENT IS KING and with so many subjects to talk about, it should be easy to fill your website with content that people will want to read. Choosing subjects that interest you will help you keep the site interesting. You can always tell when someone has a real passion for the subject they are talking about. Not everyone will agree with your point of view and that’s OK too. Anything that keeps them coming to your website will help you make sales from the products and services you promote. Self improvement and success
SELF IMPROVEMENT AND SUCCESS Everything that happens to us happens in purpose. And sometimes, one thing leads to another. Instead of locking yourself up in your cage of fears and crying over past heartaches, embarrassment and failures, treat them as your teachers and they will become your tools in both self improvement and success. I remember watching Patch Adams – its my favorite movie, actually. Its one great film that will help you improve yourself. Hunter “patch” Adams is a medical student who failed to make it through the board exams. After months of suffering in melancholy, depression and suicidal attempts – he decided to seek for medical attention and voluntarily admitted himself in a psychiatric ward. His months of stay in the hospital led him to meeting different kinds of people. Sick people in that matter. He met a catatonic, a mentally retarded, a schizophrenic and so on. Patch found ways of treating his own ailment and finally realized he has to get back on track. He woke up one morning realizing that after all the failure and pains he has gone through, he still want to become the a doctor. He carries with himself a positive attitude that brought him self improvement and success. He didn’t only improved himself, but also the life of the people around him and the quality of life. Did he succeed? Needless to say, he became the best damn doctor his country has ever known. So, when does self improvement become synonymous with success? Where do we start? Take these tips, friends… *Stop thinking and feeling as if you’re a failure, because you’re not. How can others accept you if YOU can’t accept YOU? *When you see hunks and models on TV, think more on self improvement, not self pitying. Self acceptance is not just about having nice slender legs, or great abs. Concentrate on inner beauty. *When people feel so down and low about themselves, help them move up. Don’t go down with them. They’ll pull you down further and both of you will end up feeling inferior. *The world is a large room for lessons, not mistakes. Don’t feel stupid and doomed forever just because you failed on a science quiz. There’s always a next time. Make rooms for self improvement. *Take things one at a time. You don’t expect black sheep’s to be goody-two-shoes in just a snap of a finger. Self improvement is a one day at a time process. *Self improvement results to inner stability, personality development and dig this …. SUCCESS. It comes from self confidence, self appreciation and self esteem. * Set meaningful and achievable goals. Self improvement doesn’t turn you to be the exact replica of Cameron Diaz or Ralph Fiennes. It hopes and aims to result to an improved and better YOU. *Little things mean BIG to other people. Sometimes, we don’t realize that the little things that we do like a pat on the back, saying “hi” or “hello”, greeting someone “good day” or telling Mr. Smith something like “hey, I love your tie!” are simple things that mean so much to other people. When we’re being appreciative about beautiful things around us and other people, we also become beautiful to them. *When you’re willing to accept change and go through the process of self improvement, it doesn’t mean that everyone else is. The world is a place where people of different values and attitude hang out. Sometimes, even if you think you and your best friend always like to do the same thing together at the same time, she would most likely decline an invitation for self improvement. We should always remember that there’s no such thing as ‘over night success’. Its always a wonderful feeling to hold on to the things that you already have now, realizing that those are just one of the things you once wished for. A very nice quote says that “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” We are all here to learn our lessons. Our parents, school teachers, friends, colleagues, officemates, neighbors… they are our teachers. When we open our doors for self improvement, we increase our chances to head to the road of success.
With the cost of gas dropping americans are eliminating debt remaining from summer prices
Gas prices continue to fall after the summer surge. That’s the good news. More good news is that many people have learned how to conserve energy, something they should have started years ago. As a society, we have at least started thinking about issues such as public transportation, alternative energy sources, and hybrid vehicles. The bad news is that many Americans remain dependent on their vehicles as their only means of transportation, and had no choice but to continue to fill their tanks when the prices were higher. Their higher credit card balances are still reflecting the latest summer at the pump. Putting an even greater burden on people who can barely afford to pay the monthly minimum. Think about the local lawn care company, taxi cab, or courier service. For small business like these, this extra burden either drove many of them out of business, or the bills are now due, and they need help. When the credit card balances become out of control, the consumer begins search for their best debt relief. Instead of a consolidation program or refinancing their house (again), consumers are now turning to debt elimination. A true elimination program will allow people to legally walk away from 100% of that debt, without bankruptcy, consolidation, or refinancing. The process that is used to discharge debt is based off of U. S. Supreme Courts decisions, Title 15 United State Code (USC), the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, the Fair Credit Billing Act, the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), and numerous Banking and Lending laws. Given the fact that bankruptcy may no longer be an option, consumers and small business owners are now finding this type of debt relief more suitable to their needs. They are also finding their credit scores are higher after completing this process. Jim Vrana of The True Debt Advisor ( TrueDebtAdvisor) states, “Buying gas for their car or business equipment certainly doesn’t seem like irresponsible spending. For most people it is a mandatory burden.” He adds, “This program is giving people a fresh start on their financial lives. A ‘do-over’ you might call it. Without the credit-sting or shame of bankruptcy.”
